Walupt Creek Waterfall Elopement

Lovey and Daniel loved the idea of doing a styled waterfall elopement with me, but the term elopement didn’t resonate with them. So after hearing their story and brainstorming together, we decided to call it a Love Ceremony! While Daniel and Lovey aren’t even engaged, they have been together for years and wanted to celebrate their relationship and commitment to one another.

What is a love ceremony and why did you decide to do one?

L: I feel like it's just a celebration of our love and each other.

D: Yeah, we started talking about it because neither of us is really a firm believer in traditional weddings.

L: Mm.

D: But we do want to celebrate our love, because it's really good.

L: And we kind of wanted to do it in different ways.

D: Yeah, have, like, multiple ones over the course of our relationship, and celebrate each other and ourselves in different ways.

L: Yeah, I feel like any opportunity we can get to do a love ceremony and celebrate our love in some type of unique way, we want to take it. So this time around it was really lovely to, like, go on a journey, an adventure of sorts, in nature. And having some really sweet time and someone to capture it was lovely, and especially since it was a close friend, because we always want close loved ones around with us to kind of celebrate with us, but just us is nice sometimes too. It feels like every day is a love ceremony.

D: Cute.

L: *giggles*

What was one of your favorite activities during the day?

D: I feel like for me I really liked that we got to the waterfall so early in the day, so that we got to, like, explore it a little bit, and then sit and have our little picnic together, and take our time taking pictures and hanging out and relaxing into the situation and the space, which was so beautiful.

L: Yeah, and I think different types of meals to share together. I really enjoyed the gratification of getting to the waterfall, too. Being in that waterfall was quite beautiful, and walking up it together and sharing cute moments, talking about how beautiful it was and cuddling up was really sweet. I also liked the album cover picture we got. *Laughs*

Who would you recommend a love ceremony to?

D: I mean, I would recommend a love ceremony to anybody who wants to express their love with someone special in their life. And I, like - having this experience inspires me to want to do, like, special love ceremonies with my friends.

L: Aw, cute.

D: To be, like, hey our love is special and I treasure it.

L: Yeah. Mm.

D: What I really love about the idea of doing a love ceremony is that it can be so personal and specific to you, and it doesn't have to have anything to do with, um, what the stories we’re told are about romance.

L: Mm. *Sighs* Yeah, with it feeling very unconventional, there's certain friends that come to mind where this would be a cool way, like, some type of tangible thing of your love, and it's kind of beyond, like, what you do behind closed doors. Everyone gets to see the cuteness. It's kind of like a little peak, a little window view of love. And I would totally suggest it to some of my close friends, slash I already have suggested it to them. I think it would be such a cute thing, I'm so curious to see how my friends would manifest that. And it feels not limiting to have a love ceremony, so I would suggest it to us in the future, to do again!

D: Yeah, I was like, "I want to suggest it to us a few more times."

L: *laughs* Yeah, I would love that.

D: Just, like, down the road.

L: Yeah. There's definitely some friends, too, who I think have really cute loves, who aren't in Portland, and I would love to see their love ceremony pictures.
