Where should we have our engagement session on Bainbridge Island?

For Clay and Shelby’s shoot, we hit 3 locations on Bainbridge Island. First, we started at Hawley Cove Park, which overlooked Eagle Harbor. The beach was accessible by a forested trail and you could get close-up views of the ferries. Then we moved to Grand Forest East. This deeply lush and wooded park reminded me a lot of Forest Park back in Portland. The famous log bridge is only a few minutes from the trailhead and is easily accessible. Finally, we wrapped the day up by heading to Shelby’s parent’s house. Their property overlooked Port Orchard and we got to see a breathtaking sunset. Of course, we had to end the night by popping a bottle of champagne and drink it out of a few… glass champagne bongs? (yes, you heard me right).

This day had such a lovely and relaxed flow to it. We felt like we were able to see all sides of the island in only a few hours! Below you’ll find our route with a few alternatives.

How do I get to Bainbridge Island?

There are a few ways to access Bainbridge Island. You can access the island via Highway 16 that runs up from Tacoma, or you can go the much scenic (and much cooler) route and take the ferry from the Port of Seattle. During the 30 minute ride you’ll get spectacular views of downtown Seattle and Elliot Bay. Riding the ferry is a favorite pastime for locals and anyone visiting Seattle should experience them at least once. Unfortunately due to the Pandemic we were unable to get photos on the ferry ride itself as they had restricted access to the upper decks and required folks to wear masks (safety first!). If you do decide to take the ferry, be sure to buy your tickets in advance and show up to your ride at least 45mins ahead of time. The boats have limited capacity and can fill up quickly!
